Inhaling a bit of history
Saaleck Castle near Hammelburg. Today it’s a hotel and a wine estate. But in former times???
Knights or even a royal family have never lived at Saaleck Castle. Ever since it’s erection in the 11th and 12th centuries the castle has always been the residence of dukes or bailiffs; sometimes the prince abbot himself resided there, in summer or at the time of grape picking. Nevertheless, many tales about emperors, kings or noble damsels are told.
All these stories have one thing in common: they tell about the Saaleck wine, who’s origin leads back to 777. So the wine is still a reason to engross oneself into it and into the past.
How easy is it to feel the spirit of centuries past while the eyes are wandering down into the valley of the Franconian Saale or over the green barrows of the Rhön Hills, standing in the tower, in the abbot’s room or in one of the sleeping chambers – stylish, but meeting all the modern expectations.
The forests and vineyards all around give the spirit room for rest, recreation and new ideas. To let them be of a most pleasant kind is one result of the things the people in the castle understand as good Franconian hospitality.
The adjacent town of Bad Kissingen wants to use its core competences culture, health and tourism and develop them more and more in interaction with partners from the area in the project “BAD KISSINGEN WORLDS OF ENJOY – wine, culture, health”.
