The Gerolsteiner highscore list
for restaurants sets up an every year ranking of all restaurants tested by one or several of the seven big national restaurant guides. So this is the only ranking that presents an overview of the complete German top gastronomy. Our Saaleck Castle is among them.
Knights or royal families never lived at Saaleck Castle.
Since the 11th/12th century, when it was built, this castle had always been the residence of noble dukes or officials, even the prince abbot himself resided here during the summer or in the grape-picking season. Nevertheless, many legends tell about emperors, kings or noble damsels.
All of these stories have one thing in common: they tell about the Saaleck wine, which can be traced back to the year 777. So it’s worth to dig a bit deeper into the wine matter and the past.
You easily feel the spirit of past centuries when you look out of the tower room or the abbot room or one of the other bed chambers – stylish, but meeting the modern requirements – and let your eyes roam down into the valley of the little river Fränkische Saale or the green Rhön hills.
The forests and vineyards around give your mind space for rest, relaxation and new thoughts. The way we understand good Franconian hospitality will certainly give them a very pleasant direction.
